The New Mexico Association of REALTORS® (NMAR) is seeking an experienced attorney and strategic leader to serve as our next Director of Governance, Risk & Compliance / Staff Attorney. This is a unique opportunity for a legal professional who wants to move beyond traditional practice and make a meaningful impact on one of New Mexico's largest professional trade associations.
The New Mexico Association of REALTORS® is the statewide trade association representing REALTOR® members throughout New Mexico. Our mission is to support real estate professionals through advocacy, education, risk management resources, professional standards administration, and industry leadership.
In this highly visible leadership role, you will serve as NMAR's primary staff attorney and trusted advisor on governance, professional standards, risk management, compliance, and member legal services. You will work closely with association leadership, volunteer committees, local REALTOR® organizations, and industry stakeholders to help guide policy, reduce risk, and support more than 8,000 REALTOR® members across the state.

What You'll Do
As Director of Governance, Risk & Compliance, you will:
Lead administration of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics and professional standards processes.
Manage ethics complaints, arbitration matters, ombudsman services, and mediation programs.
Oversee the NMAR Legal Hotline and provide legal guidance to members on real estate and risk management issues.
Direct the development, review, and implementation of NMAR's industry-leading forms program.
Support governance committees, board initiatives, bylaw reviews, and policy development.
Develop and deliver legal, ethics, compliance, and risk management training programs.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the real estate industry.
Collaborate with the General Counsel and executive leadership to identify and mitigate organizational risks.
Serve as a trusted resource to local REALTOR® associations throughout New Mexico.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Licensed and in good standing with the New Mexico State Bar.
Three or more years of progressive legal experience.
Strong legal research, writing, presentation, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
Real estate law.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $120,000-$140,000
